In the third chapter of adidas Originals’ alternate universe of 3-stripes icons, the A//D (adidas Parallel Dimension) series returns this month applying its subversive lens to a trio of silhouettes: Crazy 1 ADV, Crazy 8 ADV and Twinstrike silhouettes.
In a third chapter of the A//D project’s otherworldly narrative, the more familiar suede and technical fabric constructions of the Crazy 1 ADV and Crazy 8 ADV are switched out for breathable mesh and textured knits, structured with panels on the heel and toe box, and rendered in crisp white colorways with defining accents of crimson. Finishing touches include silicone branding hits and futuristic lacing systems, compounding the science fiction aesthetic of the release. Meanwhile, the Twinstrike is redefined through updated materials and colors, executed in cool greys with Climacool mesh, premium suede, glossy leathers and reflective detail for a striking, futuristic design finished with a complex ergonomic lacing system for optimum fit.
The release continues adidas Originals’ A//D science fiction story of the discovery of a massive black hole in space containing a portal to an alternate dimension in which everything is virtually identical to our current universe, save for a number of cosmetic differences in familiar objects. Following several expeditions through the black hole, a number of classic adidas models from the early 2000s are discovered, almost the same as their “original” counterparts, but with marked differences in their construction and design. Though each shoe’s distinctive midsole tooling retains its original form, their uppers drastically depart to create a visually similar shoe with different tactile qualities. The new styles serve as additional artifacts from a third trip to this world.
As a final touch, each shoe features graphics and labels concealed within its design – not immediately visible, upon deeper exploration they contain notes on the expedition and details about the shoe’s discovery. The effect is true to the A//D ethos: an unsettling exploration of the familiar made unfamiliar, the known reconstructed through the lens of something unknown.
