The new collaboration from the FW18 UltraBOOST Collective
adidas joins forces with the Brooklyn-based store/collective in the year that they celebrate a decade of advancing ‘a Kinfolk life’
The original UltraBOOST that launched in the early months of 2015 quickly established itself as the most impressive example of the high-performance functionality and meticulous craftsmanship that has come to define the adidas running shoe roster. The UltraBOOST Collective was formed later that year as an opportunity for some of the most revered brands and designers from around the world to create their own distinctive take on the shoe. For FW18, the UltraBOOST Collective is comprised of A Kind of Guise, Engineered Garments, Études and Kinfolk.
The friends behind Kinfolk first came together in 2008, drawn to each other from the far-flung locales of New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo. A desire to create products and experiences that captured their shared interests and sensibilities transcended any geographical distance and, as they enter their second decade together, they continue to hone and evolve the concept of ‘a Kinfolk life’. Perhaps best known internationally for the meticulously-curated streetwear selections in their flagship store, Kinfolk also apply their combined creativity to multidisciplinary spaces in Brooklyn and Tokyo.
It is this combined creativity that comes together in the Kinfolk UltraBOOST and the refined, minimalist outcome is testament to how in-sync the Kinfolk family are. What could have been an overload of competing elements is instead a considered study in shades of blue, rendered across a two-tone Primeknit upper and luxurious nubuck leather on the vamp overlay and heel clip. At a point in their history where Kinfolk are naturally taking stock of where they currently are and where they’re looking to head, the Kinfolk UltraBOOST strikes a balance between contemporary elegance and futuristic technology.
